Potted Vegetable Trio

Plant them in full sun, and you'll be rewarded with a delicious crop. These hardy plants can withstand cold temperatures as low as -12°C, making them perfect for winter gardens. The collection may include some of the following varieties: Broccoli Stromboli – This vigorous variety produces firm, compact heads of broccoli that mature early. Known for its generous yield, Broccoli Stromboli resists "blindness," ensuring a high-quality crop from every plant. A nutritious addition to any dish, it also freezes well for long-term storage. Height: 90 cm (36"). Spread: 60 cm (24"). Kale Dwarf Green Curled – A popular and compact curly kale, perfect for growing in windy gardens or poor soil conditions. It features dark, tightly frilled leaves of excellent quality. Like all kale, this variety is exceptionally hardy and stands strong against the harshest weather. Height: 60 cm (24"). Spread: 45 cm (18"). Cabbage Winter Jewel – A standout variety for autumn and winter harvests, producing smooth, dark green leaves that grow to 30 cm (12") in length. These slow-to-heart cabbages form compact, loose heads weighing around 250 g (8 oz). With superb winter hardiness, excellent flavour, and resistance to bolting, it has been praised for its quality and long harvest period, which extends into April. This variety matures approximately 60 days after transplanting and maintains its condition for weeks after. Pot up plug plants and grow them on in warm, frost free conditions until plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting out in a sheltered position in firm, rich fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Prepare the soil in early spring by adding plenty of well rotted farmyard manure to the soil to improve its structure and fertility. Take care when transplanting Calabrese as it resents root disturbance. Plant calabrese at a distance of 22cm (9") apart, and cover with a protective netting or fleece to prevent attack from birds and insects. Water the plants thoroughly after planting.
