Including four fantastic varieties, these popular hardy perennials deserve a prime spot in the garden. Eyecatching tubular flowers appear in summer above a flush of glossy, semi-evergreen foliage. The blooms of this Penstemon Collection are long-lasting and continue well into autumn. Undemanding and easy to grow, Penstemons tolerate almost any position in the garden, regardless of rain or drought.

 Collection comprises:

  • Penstemon 'Sour Grapes' - This well loved variety bears upright spikes of alluring bell-shaped flowers in a peculiar blend of pink and blue, being neither one nor the other. This hardy semi-evergreen perennial is easy to grow, blooming over an exceptionally long period. Penstemons make a colourful contribution to herbaceous borders and wildlife areas where they will attract bees and other pollinators throughout the summer. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").
  • Penstemon 'Heavenly Blue' - Rich blue, bell-shaped flowers bear purple tinged throats that intermittently show pinker in certain conditions. Penstemon heterophyllus ‘Heavenly Blue’ is a tough, hardy perennial with a mound forming habit, perfect for attracting an array of beneficial insects to the garden. Height and spread: 50cm (20").
  • Penstemon 'King George V' - Slender stems of scarlet blooms sway above clumps of narrow, semi-evergreen foliage from midsummer, persisting right through to autumn. This tough and reliable hardy perennial introduces a bold splash of colour to planting schemes and attracts nectar-hungry pollinators to the garden. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 60cm (24").
  • Penstemon 'Snowstorm' - Dazzling white, bell-shaped blooms contrast beautifully with the glossy green foliage of Penstemon 'Snowstorm'. This sturdy variety boasts elegance and poise, illuminating borders with a gleaming display of summer flowers. Like most Penstemon, this hardy perennial is robust and undemanding, requiring very little aftercare once established. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 60cm (24").

The blooms of this Penstemon Collection are long-lasting and continue well into autumn. Undemanding and easy to grow, Penstemons tolerate almost any position in the garden, regardless of rain or drought. Pot up penstemon plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until plants are well grown. Pinch out the growing tips while plants are still small to encourage bushier growth. When plants are well developed, acclimatise them to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days before planting them outdoors into borders and patio containers. Grow penstemon in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, well drained soil. Penstemons can tolerate dry soils once established but dislike heavy soils that are particularly cold and wet in winter. Improve heavy soils by adding plenty of coarse grit prior to planting.

Live Plants

Dobies strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Non Standard Deliveries

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. We are committed to finding a way that we can resume or normal services again as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvience caused.

Prices include VAT where applicable.

We reserve the right to contact you and advise an additional charge where necessary and are happy to quote for carriage of specific products to more remote areas. Some items may not be available to all areas.

We reserve the right to revise any carriage charges in the event of carrier price increase or other unforeseen circumstances. We will always advise of the carriage charge before payment is taken.

All Dobies products should reach you in perfect condition, just as they left us. If you are dissatisfied in any way with their condition on arrival, please let us know within 14 days. We are only liable for the cost of the goods as quoted on the website plus the cost of delivery if the goods are faulty.

Unlike many companies, we publish all of our reviews - good or bad - to give you, the customer, total transparency and peace of mind.
