Rob says “I love alliums in the garden, with their purple globular flowers towering over lush, green foliage; they are true bee magnets. 'Quattro' is a beautiful allium, but the best part about this plant is that it's edible!”
Tasting of onion with a hint of garlic, they are like super-charged chives with tender, flat leaves (just like a daffodil) which are perfect to use like a chive or spring onion. Not only are the leaves edible, so are the stalks and flowers which look amazing in salads. Alternatively, flowers can be used cut in a vase and will stay fresh for over 2 weeks.
FACT: Plants will grow around 15cm tall in the first year and are best used sparingly, allowing the plants to grow larger and over winter. From the second year the plants will get to 30cm tall and the flowers will reach 90cm. Fresh leaves are produced until the first frosts.
