Indoors: Sow 4cm (1 1/2") deep in pots or trays of good quality seed compost and place on a windowsill, propagator or a greenhouse at a temperature of 18-21°C. Grow on, hardening off and planting outside when risks of frost have passed. Sow direct into warm and moist soil. Prepare the ground in the autumn by digging and adding an abundant supply of compost or well-rotted manure. Rake in a general fertiliser 2 weeks prior to sowing or planting. Water well during dry weather and conserve moisture by mulching around the roots.
Always add plenty of organic matter to the area you are going to grow runner beans the winter before planting
