Fig 'Rouge de Juillet' is a delightful early-ripening variety from France, cherished for its delectable sweetness and adaptability to cooler climates. This fig produces small to medium-sized fruits that are distinctly pear-shaped, showcasing a beautiful reddish-purple skin that encases rich, vibrant red flesh. The flavor profile is not only sweet but also carries a fragrant quality, making these figs a perfect treat for those who enjoy eating them fresh off the tree.

Ripening from early to mid-July, 'Rouge de Juillet' stands out as one of the earliest fruiting figs, making it an excellent choice for regions with shorter growing seasons. In favorable weather conditions, this variety may even yield a second, smaller crop later in the season, providing an extended harvest for gardeners. Its compact and moderately vigorous growth habit allows it to thrive in pots or small gardens, and it can be effectively trained against a warm wall, maximizing its exposure to sunlight.

To ensure optimal growth, 'Rouge de Juillet' prefers a sunny, sheltered location with well-drained soil. This self-fertile fig is not only easy to cultivate but also requires minimal maintenance, making it an ideal choice for both novice and experienced gardeners alike. While it is hardy in the milder regions of the UK, young plants and those grown in pots will benefit from some winter protection to help them thrive through the colder months. Height: 250 cm (8 ft). Spread: 200 cm (6.5 ft).

Grow fig trees in a sheltered, sunny position. A warm, south facing site against a wall is ideal. Figs prefer a moisture retentive, fertile, well drained soil that is slightly alkaline. Prior to planting fig trees, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole. Figs have a vigorous growth habit but can be restricted by constructing a 60cm (2') square, open bottomed brick or concrete pit around the root system. Add a 15cm (6") layer of broken stone to the base of the pit. Alternatively plant figs in large patio containers using a well drained compost such as John Innes No.3. When growing fig trees in containers they should be repotted every two years. If figs are to be wall trained, install support wires prior to planting.

Live Plants

Dobies strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Non Standard Deliveries

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. We are committed to finding a way that we can resume or normal services again as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvience caused.

Prices include VAT where applicable.

We reserve the right to contact you and advise an additional charge where necessary and are happy to quote for carriage of specific products to more remote areas. Some items may not be available to all areas.

We reserve the right to revise any carriage charges in the event of carrier price increase or other unforeseen circumstances. We will always advise of the carriage charge before payment is taken.
