Clematis 'Mrs N. Thompson' is a remarkable variety of clematis that captivates with its compact growth and large, eye-catching flowers. The petals, a stunning shade of violet-blue, are elegantly adorned with a vivid red central bar, while the bright yellow stamens provide a striking contrast that enhances the overall bicolour effect. This exquisite plant blooms twice a year, first in late spring and then again in late summer, offering a continuous display of beauty that is particularly suited for small gardens, patios, and containers. Its ability to thrive on trellises, fences, and obelisks makes it a versatile choice for any outdoor space.

This clematis variety produces flowers that measure an impressive 12 to 15 centimeters across, making a bold statement in any garden setting. The blooms not only attract the eye but also draw in pollinators, adding life and vibrancy to the environment. 'Mrs N. Thompson' flourishes in full sun to partial shade, with a preference for fertile, moisture-retentive, and well-drained soil. To ensure optimal growth, it is essential to keep the roots cool and shaded, allowing the plant to maintain its vigor and health throughout the growing season.

While hardy in the UK, this clematis benefits from a touch of winter protection to safeguard its early buds from harsh conditions. Light pruning after the initial flowering encourages robust growth, while occasional harder pruning can be employed to rejuvenate the plant as needed. With its stunning floral display and adaptability, Clematis 'Mrs N. Thompson' is a luxurious addition to any garden, promising to enchant with its beauty and charm year after year. Height: 250cm (98 in) Spread: 100cm (39 in)

When planting clematis, choose a position in sun or semi-shade and plant the climber deeply in moist, fertile, well drained soil. Position the top of the rootball at a depth of 7.5cm (3") below soil level, to encourage new shoots to form from the base of the plant. Clematis dislike soils that are particularly wet or dry. Such soils can be improved by the addition of plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. When growing clematis in patio containers use a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3. Train clematis plants onto a suitable support such as trellis, wires or a freestanding climbing frame.

Live Plants

Dobies strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
