Enjoy fresh sweet cherries picked from your patio! Cherry 'Sylvia Column' is a dwarf cherry that bears few side branches, growing into a narrow column that fits into the tightest of spaces. It is ideal for container growing on a patio, terrace, balcony or courtyard. It works equally well against a wall or in a small border and will tolerate dense plantings. White blossom in spring is followed by large, dark red fruit ready for picking in late July. Fruit is juicy, well flavoured and resistant to splitting. Height: 2.5m (8.2ft). Spread: 1m (39in).
- Self-fertile: But heaviest crops are achieved when grown with a pollination partner. If you only have room for one tree then make sure that a neighbour has a tree close by that can act as a suitable pollinator.

Plant cherry trees in any well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well.
When growing cherries on the patio, use a large 60cm (24") diameter container filled with a soil based compost such as John Innes No 3.
