Great Value
Collection comprising 24 plants (6 of each variety): Christine (picture 1) - This strawberry really has it all! Christine is the earliest variety we offer - two weeks earlier than Perfection, cropping outside from the first week in June. By protecting with cloches or growing in a tunnel you can expect to pick from mid May. The fruit is large, firm and extremely juicy and sweet - giving a wonderful start to the strawberry season. Christine is easy to grow too having strong resistant to the major strawberry disease and pests. To ensure best yield and flavour water generously in dry spells and particularly after flowering; Sallybright (picture 2) - This midseason strawberry was bred by Dr David Simpson at East Malling who was so impressed by it that he named it after his wife! We saw it in summer trials last year and quickly identified it as a winner too. The fruits are large, uniform and shiny and well presented on upright plants which makes Sallybright easy to pick. Flavour is superb with just a hint of acid to balance the sweetness and it makes superb strawberry jam. Importantly for the gardener this is another strawberry with excellent all round resistant to disease; Amelia (picture 3) - This lovely strawberry was bred and selected at East Malling as a replacement for the popular Florence and is an excellent choice to grow alongside Sallybright. It's vigorous and easy to grow, having good resistance to mildew and wilt disease. The juicy fruits are large, firm and sweet and will be ready to pick from late June; Malling Opal (picture 4) - Probably the best ever 'everbearer' from Dr. David Simpson, which starts to crop earlier than many existing varieties, and produces the large, sweet and juicy fruit that you would expect from a June bearer. It also produces a consistently heavy yield, cropping steadily from June right through to October - our trials have shown that you can expect to pick around 2-3 lb per week from just 10 plants!

CULTURE: Preparation for planting - Plant strawberries 45cm (18") apart with 75cm (2½') between each row. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot and dig in plenty of well-rotted manure or compost. Full growing instructions included.
HINTS: Note - At despatch time, plants will be partially dormant and some may have very little foliage. Once planted they will establish good root systems and be ready to grow away vigorously in spring.
HEALTH BENEFITS - One of the most nutritious of fruits! Low in calories (approximately 90 calories per punnet). Very high in vitamin C (five berries a day provides more vitamin C than an orange!). High in folate (which aids memory and concentration). Plus high in fibre too!
