Potato Maris Bard - 3 kg

Potato Maris Bard - 3 kg(First Early)

A high yielding first early variety
A very well known early for digging after the very first potatoes have finished. Bard has soft waxy creamy white flesh and a distinctive slightly earthy taste. High yielding and reliable. First Early variety. Skin Colour - White. Flesh Colour - Cream. Uses - new, boil, steam, mash and saute. Our seed potatoes are inspected by the relevant certifying authority and that number is featured on the bag labels (within riddle size 35mm x 60mm). This eliminates over-large and very small potatoes.

CULTURE: IMPORTANT - Immediately upon arrival unpack your seed potatoes and keep them in trays in a light, airy, frost free place to sprout prior to planting in March/April. Planting - depth 10cm (4"); spacing in row - 30-40cm (12-16"); width between rows - 70-75cm (28-30"). Soil should be well-worked and rich in humus (farm-yard manure or garden compost). Earth up two to three times as the top grows, to avoid green tubers. Feed with a balanced fertiliser and always keep your potatoes watered well during dry periods to ensure a good crop. IN PATIO CONTAINERS/GROW BAGS: Try Lady Christl, Swift, Maxine, Winston, Anya, Charlotte or most early varieties. We recommend one tuber to a 20 litre pot. In grow bags, reduce length by a third to give more depth and plant 2 tubers to a bag. If growing this way, the compost will need to be well watered. If any potatoes come to the surface, cover with more compost or black plastic to prevent the tubers turning green.
HINT: ORDER DESPATCH - Potatoes are sent separately from your seed order and will be despatched from December onwards, weather permitting. Please note that we monitor weather conditions daily during critical periods and do not despatch when frosty conditions are forecast. 3kg pack will be enough to plant a 10-12m row. HEALTH BENEFITS: A good source of vitamin C (Anti-ageing, wound healing, decreasing blood cholesterol and prevention of infections. Assists the body in absorbing iron) and Potassium (Regulates heart rhythm, nerve impulses and muscle function), protein and fibre.

Delicious potatoes fresh from the garden .... and so easy to grow!
Growing potatoes is easy provided you follow a few simple rules and the first of these is to plant the highest quality potato seed. All Dobies seed potatoes originate from specialist potato growers and are grown in the climate and conditions necessary to ensure the seed is healthy and free from pests and diseases. The crops are inspected in the field and after harvest by qualified inspectors from the Certifying Authority. We've been supplying seed potatoes for over 25 years and, by trialling them each year, we have gained a thorough understanding of how they grow and taste.
ORDERING YOUR SEED POTATOES: Buy 2 or more 3kg packs & SAVE £1.00 per pack which will be deducted from your basket. This reduction applies to any combination of 3kg packs ordered.
Quality Control - Once they have passed their inspections, our seed potatoes receive a certification number which you will see on the bag label. They are size graded within riddle size 35mm x 60mm which eliminates all over large and very small tubers although of course this does not mean that they are all identical as the precise nature of the seed is largely dependant on growing season and variety. Before packing the seed undergoes a final visual inspection to remove damaged and substandard tubers. Note: a 3kg pack of a typical variety should contain approximately 30 potato tubers.
Order Despatch - Potatoes are sent separately in special secure cartons, and will be despatched from December onwards. Please note that we monitor weather conditions daily during critical periods and do not despatch when frosty conditions are forecast. Orders of seed potatoes incur a carriage charge of £3.95.
