Beetroot Chioggia Pink Seeds
Code: 431968
Tasty and exotic looking!
We now have further seed supplies of this popular Italian beet, so are pleased to re-introduce this unique variety. Round in shape and with a light red outer skin, the main feature of this variety is its unique internal structure with concentric rosy-red and white rings.
Culture: Crops 12-16 weeks from sowing. F1 hybrids last longer in good condition than ordinary types. In a sunny spot sow seed thinly in drills (straight shallow grooves) made 30cm (12”) apart and cover with about 1.25cm (½”) of soil. Thin resulting seedlings to 5–7cm (2–3”) apart. Alternatively for raised beds you can sow in small blocks with a spacing of 5–7cm each way which is more space efficient. Sow at 2–3 week intervals late April-early June for continous cropping from June-December. Row length per pack: 7.5 (25'). Harvest June-December. HEALTH BENEFITS: A proven superfood! Roots are rich in potassium and folate plus some vitamin C. The young leaves are rich in beta carotene, calcium and iron. CULINARY HINT: Don’t waste the leaves, use them like spinach! Cooking can actually increase the nutrient value. Cook the young leaves or use them in salads.
TOBY'S TIP: Twist off leaves to remove. Cutting induces ‘bleeding’ of the messy sap.
