Sure to create excitement with their extraordinary beauty and superb flavour. Fruits are purple striped with green, pink with yellow colouration and golden-yellow with orange stripes. Well suited for growing in a greenhouse or outside, they will set heavy crops of 2-3cm round fruits which will hold on the vine for an extended period of time with no cracking. Plants are indeterminate (grow as a tall single stem, and remove sideshoots). Ideal for eating fresh or cooked. Plants are indeterminate and should be tied to a support, to a height of approximately 1.8m (6'), with side shoots regularly removed.
(Cordon variety - one stem grown by pinching off side-shoots as they appear, needs staking and tying in.)
On Arrival - Remove the plants from the box as soon as they arrive and check that the compost is adequately moist, watering if necessary with tepid water. Leave them on a shaded windowsill or in a greenhouse for a few hours to settle before further handling, ensuring a frost-free non-draughty situation.
Potting On - These plants should be potted on as soon as possible, but they will keep quite well for 2–3 days if necessary, provided they are kept in a warm light place and are not allowed to dry out. Use 10cm (4") pots and a good quality moist proprietary compost and set the plants so that the top of the root ball is level with the compost surface. After potting, give a thorough watering, but thereafter take care to avoid overwet conditions, particularly as the young plants become re-established. Grow on in a light, humid position, and maintain an initial temperature of 16–18˚C (60–65˚F).
