For the earliest crops (e.g. Amsterdam Forcing) sow in frames or under cloches February–March. Start outdoor sowings from early March choosing a warm and well-drained position. For maincrops, sow April-July. Sow thinly (to avoid attack from Carrot Fly) into a finely raked, moist soil, 1.8cm deep, in rows 23–30cm apart. Alternatively for raised beds etc. grow in small blocks alleviating the need for rows. Carefully, thin seedlings if necessary until young plants are 5–7.5cm apart. Carrots are high in vitamin A which is good for rejuvenating your sight – so they really do help you to see in the dark!
