Squash Seeds - Queensland Blue

As the name suggests, this old Australian winter squash produces attractive, steel-blue fruit weighing 3-5kg each.

The vining plants will happily cover a bed and produce several turban type squashes with deep ribbing. Not only does the bright orange flesh have a sweet and treacle-like flavour but the fruit also stores for an incredible 4-5 months, giving you tasty squash all throughout winter and beyond.

Sow into 10cm (4") pots in April/May and keep on a sunny windowsill. As the plants grow, keep re-potting as you see the roots come through the bottom of the pot. Two weeks after the last frost, plant your pumpkins into 60cm (2') square pits, filled with manure and compost, topped with soil. Alternatively, sow seeds directly outside in June. Keep well watered and feed every 2 weeks.

Water and feed well throughout summer
