Tomato Plants - F1 Flamingo

Wow, what a tomato! This pink, egg-shaped tomato was the surprise of the year - it really has to be tasted to be believed. Out of over 500 tomato varieties tasted over the year this is the tomato that stands high above all others. The taste is super sweet with a good acid balance and the flavour explodes when eaten. Indeterminate and prolific, although once you've eaten the first one, you'll find they can't ripen quick enough!

(Cordon variety - one stem grown by pinching off side-shoots as they appear, needs staking and tying in.)

On Arrival - Remove the plants from the box as soon as they arrive and check that the compost is adequately moist, watering if necessary with tepid water. Leave them on a shaded windowsill or in a greenhouse for a few hours to settle before further handling, ensuring a frost-free non-draughty situation.

Potting On - These plants should be potted on as soon as possible, but they will keep quite well for 2–3 days if necessary, provided they are kept in a warm light place and are not allowed to dry out. Use 10cm (4") pots and a good quality moist proprietary compost and set the plants so that the top of the root ball is level with the compost surface. After potting, give a thorough watering, but thereafter take care to avoid overwet conditions, particularly as the young plants become re-established. Grow on in a light, humid position, and maintain an initial temperature of 16–18˚C (60–65˚F).
