Cabbage White Seeds - Jersey Wakefield

Brassica oleracea var. capita

“Grown in the States from 1840, there is suspicion that ‘Jersey Wakefield’ actually made its way to America from Yorkshire! This pointed, sweet cabbage is resistant to splitting and very compact with few outer leaves, so it won’t take up too much room in your veg patch. Light green in colour, ‘Jersey Wakefield’ will be ready in early summer, letting you use it for coleslaw, salads or any number of dishes. Definitely one of my families ‘must grow’ veg!”

Sow March-May in 2cm (¾") deep drills (shallow grooves) 15cm (6") apart on prepared seedbeds outdoors in warm, moist, weed-free soil. Alternatively, sow into trays of moist well-drained seed compost. Cover with soil. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 9cm (3½") pots and harden off for 2-3 weeks before planting out. Plant out June-July, 25cm (10") apart and 45cm (18") between rows. Can also be sown in a cold frame in January for early crops.

Ideal for beds and borders. Prefers full sun or partial shade.
