A garden and household twine made from the wool of rare-breed Whiteface Dartmoor sheep. It's strong yet soft and will last for a year in the garden. It's also compostable! A completely sustainable and socially responsible product. Slinky Minky. TWOOL is made in Britain from the 'lustre' long wool of the rare Whiteface Dartmoor sheep, a much under-used natural resource. The Whiteface Dartmoor sheep is one of Britain's most ancient breeds.
Whiteface are renowned for exceptional mothering instincts, ease of lambing, high quality meat, wool and beautiful long-curled skins. Indigenous to Dartmoor, and well adapted to its upland pastures and moors, they are as much a part of its landscape as are the tors, heath and hill ponies. The breed originated here and remains largely to this day restricted to Dartmoor. But they are classified as 'At risk', numbers having declined hugely since their heyday in the 17th and 18th centuries. Their on-going story reflects the ups and downs of farming and a variety of pressures, internal and external, and changing market demands that can affect a geographical area and its people. The Whiteface Dartmoor is an important part of Devon and Britain's heritage. Today, efforts are being made to ensure the breeds survival into the future through the work of The Whiteface Dartmoor Sheep Breeders Association and the vigilance of individual farmers and their families who keep them.
Don't let the name garden twine limit your uses for it though. An environmentally sound solution to seasonal gift wrapping and tag ties, it looks charming when teamed with crisp brown paper!
