Lava Schefflera more commonly known as the Umbrella plant, originally from Australia, has luxurious green foliage branching out from a central stem in the shape that gives it its name. Height 21-30cm (8-12"); spread 21-30cm (8-12").
Once upon a time, it emerged red hot – 700°C – from a volcano. Now there is a plant growing on the volcanic lava! A special natural combination. The plant 'embraces' the lava with its roots. The lava stone provides support, moisture and nutrients. And of course, it's a very decorative item to have at home.
Fill the tray three-quarters full with water (ideally rainwater or filtered water) and the porous rock will soak it up and water your lava plant. Mist your plant to improve humidity. Position your plant in a brightly lit spot away from direct sunlight or in semi-shade. It loves high humidity, so will be happiest in your bathroom or kitchen. Lava rock sizes and shapes vary. Full care instructions included. It will grow into a bushy, compact plant that won't grow too high. The minimum temperature for this plant is 15°C.
If a Lava Schefflera gets too big, you can prune its branches by clipping the stem in the desired place just above a notch on the stem. Leave 3-4 notches, so the plant has enough sites to grow shoots.
