An attractive reddish-brown type with a light green centre. The crisp frilly leaves form a loose ball-shaped head. Adds colour, interest, and a tangy taste to the salad bowl. Sow late March-early August. Row 15m (50'). RHS Award of Garden Merit Winner. Loose leaf 'picking' variety. Maturing time approximately 10-14 weeks from sowing. This variety trialled, tested and recommended by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany.
Culture: Sow outdoors from late March-early August at fortnightly intervals to ensure a regular supply. Sow in rows 30cm (12") apart and 1.25cm (½") deep and thin the plants to 23-30cm (9-12") apart. For over-wintered supplies choose 'Valdor' and sow seed outdoors late August-early September. For growing in a greenhouse during winter choose the varieties 'Rosetta' or 'Valdor'.

Beautifully curled, fringed foliage with tasty leaves that can be pulled for use as required without lifting the whole plant. Slow to run to seed. HEALTH BENEFITS: Source of beta-carotene/vitamin A (For growth, healthy hair, skin, bones, teeth and eyes as well as resistance to respiratory infections) - especially darker green leaves. Reputed to have a sedative effect.
