Climbing French Bean Seeds - Blauhilde

Phaseolus vulgaris

“An old German variety of climbing bean. ‘Blauhilde’ can grow up to 275cm (9’) if left to its own devices. This variety is very ornamental, producing rosy purple flowers, followed by purple, stringless beans that can reach up to 20-30cm (8-11”)! ‘Blauhilde’ will give a heavy crop for months, from July to October. If that wasn’t enough, ‘Blauhilde’ also has fantastic resistance to Mosaic virus.”

Sow in pots or trays on a windowsill or in a greenhouse using a good quality compost. Cover seeds with 25mm (1") compost. Germination 7-14 days. Grow on, planting outside or protecting with cloches until frost risk has passed. Alternatively, sow direct into prepared, warm, moist soil, first erecting canes or netting to eventually support plants, sowing one seed per cane or at 15-23cm (6-9") intervals along the row at a depth of 25mm (1"). Grows best in rich, well prepared soil. Mulch with manure, straw or a layer of grass clippings. Water well during dry weather.

Ideal for beds and borders. Prefers full sun or partial shade.
