Beetroot Seeds - Solo F1

Beta vulgaris

Like Moneta, this first-class monogerm variety produces one strong seedling per cluster so much less thinning out is needed, compared to ordinary varieties. It’s a fast maturing variety whose roots have a high sugar content, making them ideal as a ‘baby beet’, or left to mature. British bred, it shows good resistance to bolting, leaf spot, downy and powdery mildew. Row length per pack: 4m (13’).

Crops 12-16 weeks from sowing. F1 hybrids last longer in good condition than ordinary types. In a sunny spot sow seed thinly in drills (straight shallow grooves) made 30cm (12”) apart and cover with about 1.25cm (½”) of soil. Thin resulting seedlings to 5–7cm (2–3”) apart. Alternatively for raised beds you can sow in small blocks with a spacing of 5–7cm (2-3”) each way which is more space efficient. Sow bolt-resistant varieties March-April and other varieties late April to July, for continuous cropping from June-December! Row length per pack: 7.5m (25'). Harvest June-December.

Ideal for beds and borders. HEALTH BENEFITS: A proven superfood! Roots are rich in potassium and folate plus some vitamin C. The young leaves are rich in beta carotene, calcium and iron. CULINARY TIPS: Don’t waste the leaves, use them like spinach! Cooking can actually increase the nutrient value. Cook the young leaves or use them in salads.
