Kale Plants - Mixed Collection

1 Review(s) with an average rating of:
5.0

Our mixed collection of Kale plants will provide you with delicious, nutritious "leafy" pickings from late autumn to early winter. The plants are extremely reliable and will withstand the most adverse weather conditions. Collection contains 21 plants (7 of each variety):

Black Magic - A newish variety of the Italian black cabbage, bred to perform better in our climate, with improved cold tolerance, colour, leaf shape and bolt resistance than current Italian varieties. Good cut-and-come-again crop.
F1 Reflex - A dark-leaved, intensely-curled, fully winter hardy variety which stands well without yellowing and can be picked in summer as tasty ‘baby’ leaves..
F1 Redbor - A colourful addition to the vegetable or ornamental garden. Delicious purplish-red curled leaves. RHS Award of Garden Merit winner.

Kale has had a huge resurgence in recent years thanks to its incredibly high nutritional values, so much so that we've seen headlines like 'Kale shortage imminent'. Easy to grow, incredibly productive and with a multitude of colours and leaf shapes .... what's not to like? Delicious, versatile and incredibly nutritious!

You don't have to have a large vegetable garden to grow your own. Even the smallest patio or balcony can accommodate a few containers that will give you a bumper crop of delicious fresh produce!

Plant 60cm (2') apart in each direction. Grow the plants in a reasonably sunny spot. Remove any yellowing leaves. From autumn to spring harvest the young leaves as required, older leaves have a bitter taste. In spring apply a fertilizer to boost growth. On Receipt - Remove the plants from the packaging immediately upon receipt. Check the compost is moist and water if necessary. All the vegetable plants can be planted immediately into a moist soil in the garden, provided conditions are suitable. Once planted water well to settle the soil around the plants. Soil Preparation - Vegetable plants require a well drained soil in a sunny position that has ideally been dug in the autumn. Prior to planting lightly fork over the area removing any weeds that have grown, and break down any large lumps. Apply a general fertiliser such as Growmore and rake into the surface. During the growing period keep the plants well watered in dry spells and keep weeds under control.
