Pumpkin Seeds - Old Boer White

Blanche platt white boer

“Originating in South Africa. I first came across this beautiful, pure white pumpkin while in Cape Town. It is flatter than most other pumpkins, with pronounced ribbing to the skin. The white skin is a complete contrast to the creamy orange flesh inside. Having a very small seed cavity means that each of these 6.8-9kg (15-20lb) fruits has more usable, sweet flesh inside. Renowned across South Africa, not only for its great storing quality, but for its superb cooking and baking prowess. The skin is easily cut with a sharp knife, rather than needing a saw to cut it like some other pumpkins. Beautiful roasted and served with casseroles, or sprinkle with cumin and bake to make pumpkin chips. Why not take advantage of this ghostly white variety and be the talking point of the town at halloween.”

Sow into 10cm (4") pots in April/May and keep on a sunny windowsill. As the plants grow, keep re-potting as you see the roots come through the bottom of the pot. Two weeks after the last frost, plant your pumpkins into  60cm (2') square pits, filled with manure and compost, topped with soil. Keep well watered and feed every 2 weeks.

Ideal for beds and borders.
