Cornflower Seeds - Black Ball

Centaurea cyanus

“A typical cottage garden addition, ‘Black Ball’ is one of the easiest flowers to grow. Producing masses of beautiful, dark crimson red, double blooms. Loved by pollinators, this variety loves full sun. A true cut and come again flower, which can be used for any arrangement, from a vase to a wedding bouquet. The flowers dry brilliantly, meaning they can be used for anything. In fact, they produce that many flowers, you’ll be hard pushed to use them all.” Height 90cm (36”).

Rob's Fillers - Fillers are the ‘can can’ girls of the arrangement, they look impressive but they are there to support the Thriller.  They also help ‘fill out’ the arrangement and make it look bigger and bolder.

Sow directly into the garden March-May, around 1cm (½") deep in free draining, weed-free soil. Thin resulting seedlings by degrees to around 25cm (9") apart. Can also be sown in summer, June-October, for earlier and bigger flowers the following year. I grow a few in old buckets, this allows you to move them around and fill any empty gap in the garden with instant colour.

Ideal for beds and borders. Suitable for cut flowers and dried.
